The Massage Therapist

Background

Jo Lamboy (CMT #68925) began their profound passion into embodiment at the age of 8 years old, studying dance of all genres in the Bay Area (unceded Ohlone territories), CA. Jo first experienced therapeutic bodywork in Mexico at a very young age that ultimately shaped the appreciation Jo holds for bodywork today. Jo followed their thread of curiosity into a 900 hour program at the National Holistic Institute, studying many modalities from traditional eastern practices underneath a westernized conceptualization as well as western developed modalities. Jo excelled tremendously, graduating with 25 hours of specialized sports massage experience and an academic student services award. Jo continued their curiosity into the realm of energetic and emotional support, studying with Lynn Blos a master energetic Reiki practitioner out of Belmont, CA. In March of 2018, Jo travelled to Costa Rica to study permaculture design & herbalism underneath Sarah Wu and incorporates herbal support into the format of their client’s sessions by offering massage with the assistance of herbal based salves. Jo has spent the last six years dedicated to ongoing community organizing / educational efforts that center accessible healthcare and resources to marginalized groups impacted by systemic violence. Some local organizations Jo has worked with include the East Oakland Collective, Planting Justice, and Punks with Lunch. Jo feels compelled through the healing & cathartic practices of therapeutic bodywork, somatics based education, movement/dance/contact improvisation, ancestral education, herbalism, and a lifelong dedication to transformational justice rooted in collectivism — approaches that include anti colonial / anti capitalistic / decentralization of white supremacy education. Jo plans to return to school to receive additional education in advanced neuromuscular therapy in 2025. They also intend to receive an aesthetician license by the end of 2026 with a special focus in medical scar care support.
